Perform with NORPA!

NORPA is partnering with Strings Attached physical theatre company to lead a workshop program as part of our Makers Hub.

The first stage of this project is a week-long workshop where young performers will find themselves creating and playing in the space between the ground and in the air.

Blending harness-aided aerial dance with movement-based theatre – the participants will be guided through training, improvisation and choreographic techniques to develop a versatile performance style and build rapport amongst the ensemble. The week will culminate in a short sharing for friends and family.

The program will give young people skills in aerial choreography and physical theatre as we explore the question: ‘what lifts you up?’

Conscious of the mental health of our regions young people the project aims to engage with our region after two years of pandemic and last years devastating floods that have affected so many schools and young people and families.

NORPA is the leading arts organisation in the Northern Rivers and we are keen to play a role in the role of art in recovery in Lismore and surrounding towns. While our theatre in Lismore was significantly damaged we are developing an exciting program that aims at engaging with communities through creative opportunities and projects.

At the centre of this project is the role of community and its resilience and care – to Lift above the rubble and destruction.

The work will be further developed with new a writing, designer and sound designer to build a new work to be presented to the general public in 2024.
