As part of NORPA Makers In Residence program, we’re offering two free workshops for local theatre makers, led by our Imogen Sage. Come and explore new ways of making theatre!

Workshop 1: Devising Theatre with Myth

Delve into the space where ancient myths meet contemporary women’s stories, with Imogen Sage.

This workshop invites performers and artists of all levels of experience to explore devising theatre through myths and folktales from around the world. Participants will experiment with blending and reframing myths with contemporary women’s stories through devising, storytelling, play, and ensemble work. We will explore the timelessness, power and form that myths can offer us when creating new performance work, especially when telling unspoken stories.

Some stories are difficult to tell. While we won’t be going into great depth in this one-off workshop, we would like it to be a safe space specifically for women, trans and gender-diverse people.

Suitable for ages 16+
Experience level: Emerging and established storytellers, performers and makers

ABOUT IMOGEN SAGE

Imogen is an actor, theatre-maker and previous Northern Rivers resident. She trained at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London and has performed extensively in the UK and Australia with companies such as Kneehigh Theatre, Melbourne Theatre Company and Bell Shakespeare, as well as in her own works Woyzeck + Marie and The Last Tentacle.

Imogen is undertaking NORPA’s first Maker In Residence in the Northern Rivers this June 2026.  She will spend 2 weeks developing a new one-woman theatre work that interweaves Irish mythology, investigations into gender-based violence and trauma, and the local family history of Imogen’s Irish ancestral grandmother who disappeared in the Lismore area a century ago.

NORPA’s Makers In Residence program is supported by The Ian Potter Foundation.
