The Joinery Gallery
Where we began
In June 2025, NORPA purchased the historic Hampton and Larsson joinery factory, with plans to transform it into a flood-resilient, world’s best practice arts hub, right in the heart of Lismore.
Stage Zero: initial repairs and activation
The first stage is to create temporary office and theatre making spaces for NORPA, allowing initial use of the space as the bigger project progresses.
Stage One: our vision
Stage One will see the full renovation of the building into a flood resilient adaptive creative hub.

Stories within the building
Before cleaning or repair works began, photographer Natsky explored the hidden nooks and crannies of The Joinery, revealing some of the history and beauty hidden within. We will be incorporating this history into the way we reimagine the building and the way community will experience The Joinery. Re purposing the beauty, re contextualising the elements and machinery.
Elise Derwin’s photo essay
Award-winning Australian photographer Elise Derwin has been invited to document the transformation of The Joinery across the coming year. This unfolding body of work will become a visual archive — a record of change, resilience and renewal — capturing both the physical shift of the building and the spirit of the community reimagining it.
