An inspirational contemporary performance skills workshop

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

Thomas is a proud Minjungbal-Yugambeh, Wiradjuri and Ni-Vanuatu man, and is the award-winning co-founder of Karul Projects, Queensland’s premier contemporary Indigenous dance company.  The company’s focus is to increase First Nations voices, visibilities and stories, nationally and internationally, and is currently on a national tour with major work SILENCE.

This intensive workshop is a chance to explore the movement, technique and choreographic processes that are at the centre of Thomas’ practice. Expect an inspirational workshop with depth, flow and strong connection to the floor.

WHO IS IT FOR?

Dancers, choreographers & movement artists

EXPERIENCE LEVEL/AGE

Experienced and emerging performers, age 18+

Experienced – More than 5 years creative practice including formal training
Emerging – Less than 5 years creative practice, no requirement for formal training

WHEN

This workshop is held across two days and participants must attend both.

Friday 23 June 5pm – 8pm and Saturday 24 June 10am – 4pm

HOW TO APPLY

Places are limited and Expression of Interest applications are now closed.  

All applications will be considered in consultation with the lead artists and based on responses provided in the ‘Your experience’ section. Successful participants will be notified by Wed 12 April 2023.  If you’re unsuccessful, we’ll pop you on a waiting list and let you know if a place becomes available as soon as possible.

ABOUT THOMAS ES KELLY

Thomas is a proud Minjungbal-Yugambeh, Wiradjuri and Ni-Vanuatu man. He is the multi award-winning co-founder and Co-Artistic Director of Karul Projects, a performing arts company with a focus to increase First Nations’ voices, visibility and stories. His work spans choreography, dance, theatre, music composition and puppetry, and he creates high intensity physical works that stem from cultural practice fused with the contemporary, incorporating voice and physical percussion.

He has worked with companies including Vicki Van Hout, Shaun Parker and Company, Branch Nebula, ERTH, Chunky Move, Dancenorth, The FARM, Tasdance, Outer Urban Projects, GUTS and Urban Theatre Projects. His latest creation, 

SILENCE is currently on a major national tour.
