dance theatre masterclass

A 3—day intensive exploring the making of dance theatre
Led by Emma Saunders & Julian Louis

Thurs 31 Aug— Sat 2 Sept 2017
10am — 4pm
The Studio, Lismore City Hall

Propelling movement through narrative. When building dance theatre for a story or scenario, how do we generate movement content? When do we dance? Where is the dance? How can dance act of its own accord and blow apart the narrative?

This masterclass will be task-based and will explore the development of original movement, character, gesture and dance. During the 3 days you will also explore making fictional work through ‘the personal’.

Emma Saunders is one of NORPA’s 2017 Associate Artists. She is a dancer, curator, choreographer and educator. She co-created The Fondue Set– a formidable Sydney based dance trio well known for their signature theatricality and comedic style.

Julian Louis is a theatre maker who creates original works that are built through improvisation, physical theatre and script development. As Artistic Director of NORPA Julian has devised and directed works including Railway Wonderland and Dreamland and co-created Cockfight with The Farm.

cost

$125 for three days.
